Yuletide Baz

My father sent Basil a Christmas present, and this afternoon on the phone he asked to see a picture here of Baz wearing it. So here goes.

I don't think Baz likes it much. He sat there with it on and didn't complain, but as soon as it was removed he sprang into full savage action and tried to kill/eat the offending article.

I doubt he hates it just because it's a Santa hat. It seems more likely that he's irritated with it because the card on the present, which was very nicely wrapped, said "To Davo from Frank". Davo preceded Baz in the household pet role, and he's been dead for at least six years. Even though Davo was an evil bastard cat, complete opposite to Basil in temperament, it's actually not that unforgivable a mistake, because to the casual observer they do look an awful lot like each other.

This is an ancient picture of poor old Davo. See?

Oh well. That's all the cat news for now.

In the same phone conversation I learned that our parcel of presents for my family up north didn't make it to their place in time for Xmas Day tomorrow. That's disappointing. Mum & Dad, there's a photo of your pressie hidden under the "continued" button if you want to know what we sent you...

More bloody cushions!

There's a lovely letter in the Adelaide Advertiser today about a woman who was charmed by the checkout chick she'd just bought things from in the supermarket: a young woman who was wearing a Santa hat over her hijab.

Re family parcel -- have you read the story by Olga Masters called 'The Christmas Parcel'? I think you would really like it.

Many merries, Laura, and congrats again on the marathon, all-embracing Chrissie present post. That was truly awesome.

What gorgeous cushions.

Merry Christmas, Laura, D. and Baz! We're sending the Swedish chef over with some holiday cookies, and catnip. Enjoy!

Cleo still thinks Baz is hot. Harrys lolling around in the veggie patch, dreaming of a tuna in springwater prezzie...

I was going to be all filthy and leave a Mrs. Slewcombesque comment about how you've got a 'nice pussy' there. But with those cushions I realised this is a classy blog and I'd be chased down and elegantly beaten with some sort of craft implement.

Merry Xmas, darling.

There's nothing more arrogant than a cat.
Or a statue.

I heard your old mate Robert Manne on Radio National last night. He's brought out a book of political essays.
'Left Right Left'. That's what it's called. Seems he's gone the circle: radical to ridiculous, then back again.
Pretentious title (if I may say) but I'd expect nothing less, not from this old gasbag. Constipated prose, that's what I expect. And $49.99. I expect that too. Guess I'll wait till it's remaindered, $9.99. Or turns up at Savers, $2.99.
Am I being unkind? Not at all. I just think it's a joke to decide you're Moses, that's all.
Meanwhile expect lots of sightings. On the Campus at Latrobe. Distant and elusive, like the Tasmanian Tiger. Solemn, reserved ("Is this my best side?'). Grave, distinguished, stupendous dignity! Warm flesh to be cast in bronze.

so many rich veins here to 'tap' -
First re the catnip above mentioned by Phantom Scribbler: try peppermint tea bags - my cats go mental over them and I don't even have to boil water or put them in a cup.

Davo was not really 'an evil bastard cat' - he just loathed his name.

Baz wants me to tell you he loathes the idiot green plastic tag from the Sills Bend Council, because it sticks in his neck when he is trying to sleep.

and whadda ya mean 'allegory'? this blog is not about Baz? bless his little pink nose.

Tiny Santa Caps are endowed with pure feline psychosis. You actually put it on the animal!? You brought this upon yourself.

Is that your best side?

How unfortunate.
