me on the radio
Tonight I'm being interviewed on ABC local radio (which as you know is the same program nationally overnight) about why Jane Austen is still and/or suddenly popular. I am mentally getting ready for this by trying not to think about my default model for any sort of public talking about research exercise, which is of course the "Merrie England" lecture in Lucky Jim. If you happen to be awake at 3.30am then you can hear the interview, and perhaps you could assist by throwing a faint to create a distraction if I seem to be getting into dangerously deep waters.

Ha! You'll know I'm not making it up that I considered mentioning that episode when I was writing this post. The trouble is I'm so consumed with longing to read Byatt's new novel (and that is totally impossible at present) that I can't bear to think about Possession.
Lucky Jim has been on my mind lately, because of reasons...
Something similar here (Byatt not Amis) -- I have The Children's Book still sitting in its shopping bag, waiting for me to have a few clear hours at a time to read it without distraction, and shutting my eyes whenever I catch sight of a review.
By good fortune I read your post half an hour before it ran (10:30AM Arizona time).
It sounded pretty good to me, and made me most nostalgic for Auntie.

Is it podcast?
I have it too - The Children's Book - here, in the house, looking so luscious and lovely. And gosh, I desperately want to read it too, but I know that I can't for a couple of weeks because I have a list of tasks down to my knee.
Have a brilliant interview, but, Lucy Tartan. You'll be grouse.
I was hoping it might have been podcast, but no such luck it seems. Did they actually record it at 3.00 a.m.? Did you set the alarm specially, or just wait up for it?

It isn't podcast and it was prerecorded at 10.30pm, which was lucky really because I was already yawning by then. No chance at all of me managing to wait up that long.
I caught the second half of it, Laura. No dangerously deep waters were apparent, but i liked the host's (Rod Quinn?) comment "you seem to have a lot of favourite Austen novels".
