Gah!, or, Why I'm not blogging much at the moment

Essay marking - dragging on bloody forever as usual

the last six chapters of Emma to be read by two o'clock tomorrow and Billy Budd to be read by noon on Thursday. Then it is just Persuasion, and after that, no more educational reading until February.

give a lecture tomorrow and two next week (one to be overhauled from last year, another to be written from scratch). I hope it will not be a warm day like the week before last when to my intense mortification a number of people comfortably drifted off to sleep while I talked on.

Go to Drs tomorrow

Have hairs cut. Lat time i did this the hairdresser nicely explained that whilst my head was, quote, a 'bad shape', she had the expertise necessary to 'fix' it with haircutting techniques. It all relates to the part of my head I can't actually see myself so I have to just accept what she said and trust that she did in fact repair my deficiences. Anyway it's grown out now so I'm back to misshapen skull square one.

class test to write, print and administer next week

assemble some online workshops for next year's first years (needs to be done in the next six weeks or thereabouts)

Build new and ever more palatial mansion for chickens, have entire roof of own house replaced

do the second lot of essay marking (happily one class's last assignment is an essay in lieu of examination so there will be no annotations to be put through the mental tactfulisator and painstakingly legibly inserted into margins)

David Marr's Henson book to review by next week

Running a summer school at UQ in late November, on Sense and Sensibility - must somehow think of something to fill up 24 contact hours over 4 days. And I'm told they don't really want to do any writing or anything like that.

Turn time-travel Austen romances talk into public lecture on same, also for Brisbanian consumption

Help Albie with his issues

....Remember to breathe

'have entire roof of own house replaced'

This is a disturbing experience but does not take as long as one expects it to. And think of the water-saving issues.

'David Marr's Henson book to review by next week'

That is a brutal deadline -- who's it for?

Just let us know when you're getting the old roof off, because that will make it rain and I want to get all my buckets outside to catch it.

My Dad used to deliver roof tiles, I know about these things, it is a natural law more powerful than washing the car or planning an outdoor wedding.

Well, that's bizarre. I'm envisaging some kind of Frankenstein situation.

That last bit is very important, or you won't be able to get the other bits done.

No writing?! Dress-ups! This may help: http://improvencyclopedia.org/
