Straw Dogs

Useless chooks have the whole backyard to roam around and play in - yummy aphids on rosebushes to eat - but, computer says no. Like zombies infected with avian flu they have nothing better to do than crouch at the back door pecking monotonously at the flyscreen. PECK, PECK, PECK, PECK, PECK......(three hours later)...PECK, PECK, PECKKKKK....... When they stop the silence is too ominous and I have to get up and go see if the Rapture's takien them off into the sky or something. Yes, so I'm blaming the chooks for my failure to get over the incredibly ridiculous, petty and humiliating writing block I've been struggling under for the last ten days - yes folks, the deadline for this particular piece was ten days ago - and to make matters worse this is a co-authored piece and others are being inconvenienced by my incapacitation.

I am on rec leave at the moment and have a dazzling programme of fun activities lined up for the next few days but until I finish this stupid piece I'm not doing anything else. I only left the house for a few minutes today and that was to yell at five teenage boys who were up to something on the front lawn (I suspect teasing a cat) and then to follow them down the street demanding the return of the plant stakes they stole from the nature strip.

That pecking's started again....

Time for some sort of chicken corral, methinks?

Time for an update on the puss under the bed. I'm interested because when I was given my aunt's cat, sweet little Muffin stayed under the spare bed for two years.

The puss is under the bed no more. Now he spends most of his time curled up on the most stately chair in the living room, or else grovelling around on the floor like a total dag, when the mood strikes. I put a video on youtube for his absent mother to see:

Those stupid chooks have got a nice cabin and yard Dorian built them. I want them to eat the aphids, dammit!

Chooks can haz flyscreenz?

Is this old-fashioned metal flyscreen we're talking about here? This is bringing back harsh fingernails-on-blackboard style memories for me.

Did you get the stakes back? Hope your block as since improved - it's awful when it strikes, sometimes it feels like it will never end.

Never mind the secret rapture

BAZLOTTO

And may I say, what a handsome cat.

WTF is the secret rapture anyway? Are they in league with the chickens?

TimT said...

As Perelman said, 'Personne Ici but us chickens'. Secret Rapture sounds jolly fun, anyway.

Nice write up in the Weekend Oz, by the way, Ms LT.

Congrats ThirdCat. You are a winner. Hope it feels good, cos the feeling is all you get.

I am baffled by the Rapture, but sort of interested by the fact that they (it?) dropped in, anyway.

Feminkneesm, I got one stake back. The block is clearing, and thanks for the commiserations.

Tim, what writeup is this?

It's a newsbite about the Austen Conference in the Review section - probably not online.

I plan to come to some talks, btw, but it all depends on my work hours.

Ah, awesome. Thanks for telling me about it.

You need to take a day to do fun stuff, far away from those chickens (I keep thinking of the Louis Jordan song (?) 'ain't nobody here but us chickens') so you can ditch your blockage.

You know what would make you feel better?

If you have time and your block has ended go to The Show. We hadn't been in about ten years and just loved it - the poultry shed is just funny and amazing. Also the cats on show - so blase and cool. We bought our cat Shady a Whiskas showbag.I'm sure Baz would love one. He could show off to the other kitties.

I nearly got Bazlotto bar some pesky kids in a bath.

Anyway, I came here to alert you to a blog written by a delightful Scottish lady, here.

Not only does she have Jane Austen's jug, but there are bonus kitten pictures. Enjoy.

Bazlotto for me too - maybe the chickens are lucky for some?

Hurray Seepi! Congrats Ms Batville!

I suspect the old bazlotto might be broken or rigged or something, so enjoy it while you can...
