My chooks. Let me show you them

Candidly captured, rather unusually, in the locale of the back fence. Normally they like to lurk about at the back door in case somebody leaves it open, so they can come inside and stand there stupidly pooing on the carpet. If nobody's home, the bivouac shifts around to the side door where the catflap is. I like to think they are working on figuring out how it operates.

Their names are Bindi and Terri. The eggs are meant to arrive in five weeks. Counting down.

I am really jealous of your chooks. We don't dare get any because there are foxes living in the bush/parkland that our house backs on to. I am over compensating for the lack of chooks by putting in about 20 sorts of vegies this spring. And ordered our rainwater tank today - can't believe how excited I am by this.

Oooh, I am green with envy! Chooklets! yay! Does Baz run from them or stalk them?

ha, well don't be too jealous because I wasn't kidding about the coming inside and pooing on the floor, and anyway they're really Dorian's. The cats like to watch them but they leave them alone.

Librarygirl I hope your tank fills up! Stage 4 restrictions soon :(

I got the phrase 'stupidly pooing' and started to giggle.

They are very handsome chookies though.

My dad would tell you to look out for rats and snakes, who* will be attracted by the grain and the eggs.

*Not that I anthropomorphise animals or anything like that.

Got to the phrase.

Sheesh.

well, all my questions and remarks have been addressed by above comments ...
crows will try to get their eggs too.
the sparrows will eat all the wheat during the day.
chooks need a dust bath to keep mites at bay so Dorian will build them a sand pit and Baz will thinks it's his WC.

You will of course, be attending the RAS Show and going straight to the Poultry shed ?

I bonded totally with the 14 chooks at a house-sit I just finished, but foxes in broad daylight were very frequent.

It's not called 'chicken-wire' for nothing.

happy Hens!

BEST CHICKEN NAMES EVA!!

Ever since I was small I promised myself that, when I became a grown up, I would have chickens. I am still not a grown up. I hope the eggs turn out well.

A little disturbed though that their outfits don't quite match....
& I'd be driving to Geelong to buy chook feed in bulk before summer - prices are about to get very very silly, especially boutique urban packaging prices.

They are matching! Isn't ginger the new khaki?
