different strokes for different folks

One of the many enjoyable things about life drawing was comparing the various ways a number of people draw the same figure. In part the variations came about because we all stood in different parts of the room. But they also expressed basic differences in how we saw "the world".

Here is a drawing of mine:

Both figures are the same model - these are really quick drawings just to loosen up the arm and eye, and it's not necessary to use a fresh bit of paper for each drawing.

Here's Dorian's representation of the same two poses.

wow!

I've got that flagged as one hell of a life class.

I remember many years ago having the same realizations as yours - mine was at a still life drawing class when like you we were all drawing the same objects which were placed in the middle of a circle - we the artists were the circle - so the person infront of me and behind me were all only a arms length distance from each other. I remember thinking as I viewed the other work at the end of the session that we are literally had the same objects but saw them not only from different persectives but also different importance - some people concentrated on the bottles while others were more intent on the boxes while others 'saw' the foliage as the prime object to be drawn. In that moment I saw that this art session was an almost a template of life... We all may see have or share a similar experience but few of us if any have it exactly the same... That day I learnt a lot about my self as well as still life drawing...
