More wallpaper

Sophie said she wanted to see photos of the fruits of the most recent adventures in wallpaperin' -

close-up:

It looks awesome, but we made a mistake, you will notice if you look at the picture long enough (please humour me in my fancy that it's not instantly visible.) We thought the paper didn't have a direction, and it does. And because we turned the roll with each cut so that we didn't have to waste lots of paper to match up the pattern repeats, there are weird zones. (Features!)

Well, it doesn't matter: this was an evening's work and $50 worth of paper. Becoming Jane, by contrast, took several years to make and cost twenty-one million dollars, and still turned out profoundly embarrassing.

I thought my new next-door neighbours had kicky wallpaper, but your house takes the biscuit.

The English have always led the world in wallpaper activity.

Excellent! But I can't see the flaw. I've stared at the damned computer screen until my head swam and I can NOT see it.

Bless, Meva.

I have heard nothing good about that film. Evan Williams comment in The Australian took the cake, something like, "When she goes in for a spot of cricket, you just know that she'll show the boys a thing or two, and so she does: was it a four or a six? I forget now." On the strength of that comment alone, I no longer want to see the film.

Spiffing wallpaper, though. I can't see the mistake myself.

That looks really cool -- a bit 'brave', esp with the sofa, but you've pulled it off.

Me either, but I love how it looks.

Thank you very much for this post. I have indeed been awaiting it. I think the paper is both funky AND elegant. Nor can I see the mistake.

seems that 'spot the flaw' is as hard to win as bazlotto

Youse all know the right things to say.

I felt physically ill when I saw it was half upside-down. It's a lesson in not having too much confidence in one's ability to do something.

TimT, I forgot about the cricket part - but that review sounds spot on. The movie makes her out to be Miss Perfect in every possible way, and it was boring as well as made-up. The basic story is that she elopes with a fellow but before anything rude happens she goes home again, because she read a letter that fell out of his pocket and realised that if he went off with her, all his family in Ireland would STARVE to DEATH.

after long study I can see the wobble in the design - but I like it - that little kink, offsetting the white wiggle gives a little optical twist to it. It looks good.

Yeah, can see it but don't think it's obvious -- it's that little thing you do awry in every creative endeavour to appease the jealous gods. Like giving your children a happy nickname (at home) and an unkind one (used publicly), to avert the evil eye. Well, that's how I excused my parents's behaviour.

Duck, I really like that way of looking at it. Thanks heaps.

(As Oscar said on his deathbed, "Either that wallpaper goes or I do.")

No wall in any room is straight. No renovation is ever one hundred percent, and especially not from professionals, who are always in a hurry.
Hanging wallpaper is enormously difficult. You've done well.

Bazlotto, but I'm not artistic enought to spot the mistake. Floor looks lovely, and I like how the lounge design ties in with the wall paper design. Very clever.

Love the wallpaper. Goes well with the especially fine polished boards. I'm in awe of anyone who manages all this renovating malarkey, let alone hanging wallpaper. And no, didn't spot it.

Laura, I think it looks great, especially with the cornice. I've never tried wallpapering but anything that requires precision is beyond me.
Keep those pictures coming, the house is looking fantastic! Only thing that room needs now is a frosted glass door, preferably with motifs of Australian wildlife!

C'est magnifique. I speak as one yet to graduate from stickytaping plain old giftwrap to my walls.

Shouldn't you have tartan wallpaper?

I love this wallpaper! It looks wonderful.

And I've stared it for several minutes trying to figure out where the weird spots are -- I give up.

Gnarly decorating, Lucy. I looked long and hard, couldn't see a mistake, but my eyes crossed and a pirate ship popped out, Magic Eye style...
