I vote YES to the door. I also think you should get the pop-top caravan from the same seller. Pop! Top! Caravan!

No votes on the door.

I'd say it sounds like a VERY productive day. Meanwhile, here in the states, Dr. Crazy is making a shopping trip into an achivement--with her usual verve and humor--and all I can manage to do is blog about how I procrastinate.

And I envy those pumpkin seeds. I hate this January dietiing...

VOTE 1 DOOR. Pick is in Cockatoo though - that's quite a shlep.

If it's still only $50 on the 21st I'd go for it. Have you got some way of transporting it safely so the glass doesn't break? Do you know a nice carpenter to hang it for you?

yes to door

I say YES to the door!
We have two sliding glass doors with etched squirrels scampering all over a tree or two. They are so wonderful. You will, of course, have to strip the paint off that one to return it to its natural browny goodness.

or you could do a glass etching course at the local tafe and make your own

Hmm, now, I think the door would do Dame Edna just nicely.

You'll either love it or regret it. I don't imagine there's a halfway response to this one.

Buy it! Now! :-)

If it's one sliding door you want, I have a cream painted, amber bottle glass going for free, genuine l970's. It's just a matter of coaxing it out from behind the bookcase.

yes, do the door.

you know you want to.

it calls to you at night...

I suspect they're flogging it because the other one is broken - I'll bet you anything this is one of a pair that hung between the lounge and/or dining and/or parlour.

the pop-top caravan is a bit of a winner too, isn't it? although I want the Meakin tureen. have a bit of a soft spot for Meakin.

and tureens.

and the word 'tureen'.

oh dear. Your comments clarified a couple of things (you know how you delude yourself when things are, as Speedy says, calling to you at night?) (A) Cockatoo is one hell of a schlep from here, and I doubt we'd fit a normal-sized door into the Suzuki Swift without at at a minimum folding down the front passenger seat. So there's that.

More importantly (B) the door really is supposed to be one of a pair and that's kind of obvious when I look at it dispassionately. So I'm passing on this one but an old etched glass door with some kind of Australiana theme is definitely going onto the wishlist.

Jury's still out on the pop! top! caravan, but.

Shame you couldn't take the glass out and use it as a feature window but Cockatoo is a fair hike.

Oh yes!

Sooooooo much more class than those orange tiles.....

I grew up with a pair of similarly etched doors between our loungeroom and entrance hall (ours had emus I think)......and recall many near misses skidding across the polished floor boards....much to Mum's horror...

Hope you get it, and I agree with dogpossum, strip it back to it's natural nude state.

Good call on the door. Would have been a bummer to drive all that way and then get it home in myriad pieces.

But there's a more important issue here that nobody seems to have addressed:

Were they girly white rollerskates or rakish soccerboot style? Or detachable?

I need to know. My skates are still in my shed. They have too much emotional baggage for me to dispose of them yet.

lucy tartan said...

Skates were girly white with rakish orange speed stripes and orange wheels to match.

I can't believe you binned your skates! I still have a pair of white Redstones with red wheels in the wardrobe. They're next to my rollerblades and they look wistful when the blades get taken on an outing while they are left at home.

Laura, Cockatoo is not too far from me and have a trailer if you're keen...so can collect it for you.

A friend has the same door in his house, as a solo sliding glass one into the lounge room and it looks fab. Actually previous house owners have extended the theme and painted a fab mural onto the wall behind where the door slides. Hmm, must take photo next visit.

There's a great salvage place on Swan Street with a huge shed of doors out the back. I've seen some great etched ones there.

OK OK I voted for the door on the earlier post - I read down from the top and it all blended into one and that's the story of my life.

Laura does not like orange 1970's glass jahteh - she ignored my offer of a lovely lightshade to match your door offer.
Good thing I didn't tote it all the way to the Strathmore grogblog to give her.

drewzel you are a star to offer the trailer trip! bless you.

I'm never sure how to read ebay. It went for $50? So-So I guess.

Good sidestep. Too many times in the future you would be woken in the middle of the night by the theme to skippy with an overwhelming desire to go "tsst tsst", pop your curled hands in front of you and go off on a hop. Somnhopulation. It's for the best.

SASB spotters, what is the longest period of time between posts? Does this break the record? What is being done?

I don't keep up this blog simply for your convenience you know.

Will try to post something today, or tonight.
