Gawd..there is house on my way from work, which coming home at midnight is not good for my potenial sleep patterns. When i first saw it I thought it was a church with a huge lit up window or something, but no, just a bazillion tiny flickery ones. I'm sure there are at least 35 glowing Santas on the front lawn.

There is another one with strings of lights that flash exactly the same colour blue and red as Police/Ambo lights. Disconcerting...yes

And here...

Saw the very local street last night and was about to click and post too, but alas, no camera, no camera-comrade willing to pause.
(There's an xmas volksy that needs posting)

For the ultimate go to the Boulevard, Ivanhoe. We did a few years ago, it's like a carnival at midnight, people selling glowsticks and icecreams, children screaming because they're so exhausted, teenagers lurking in the bushes doing who knows what. there's no need go more than once, though. Still, the decorations lacked a certain flair, we thought, considering the money spent. Like, there was no Santa Elvis themed house,no illuminated Pauline Hanson in a Father Xmas suit, and no Buddhas or Krishnas, which would have given the whole thing more CLASS. I bet Pauline loves Christmas. Music too was sadly predictable.

Nah, I'm afraid the ultimate is in Lake Macquarie where I grew up, at a very special house called (wait for it) Gracelands (sic).

In another sign that the end of false religion is nigh, the $60 000 worth of lights will not shine there this year.

I love those houses. I especially love that I don't live in one.

My brother has a neighbour whose lights flash so quickly I spent an evening last year worrying that I might develop epilepsy.

Otherwise I just cross my fingers and hope that all those people have green energy. Our little Reject Shop net of coloured lights has graced the front window, but not been turned on, for a couple of weeks now.

We just flick our porch light on and off a few times each night. It's worth the occasional blown fuse to spread a bit of Christmas joy.

Those houses do a great service to society.... they make every other house so tasteful and classy by default. hell, i may have a car skeleton on my front lawn, graffiti on my side fence and an overgrown lawn, and I'd still have one up on thems folks.

why can't I seem to post with my normal blogger account in beta? it says to log in to google or blogger, but when I do, I still don't get to post and it tells me to log in again.

and I was just going to have a rant about the stupid amount people spend on their electricity bill for all this tacky poo. give it to charity instead. that's the real spirit of Xmas....

Yep. That's just like my neighbourhood.

On the way to the tram stop this morning, I saw an entire plastic manger scene in someone's front lawn – big enough to give a two-year-old nightmares, I reckon.
And - wait for it - each figure had an electric cord hanging out of its back, suggesting that they will light up and night! I'm going back with a camera at night…

Hmmm… plug-in baby Jesus.

Speedy - I've had the same trouble, and it's only posting comments on those who've made the switch. I just use the 'Other' option now. I still resist going to the dark side (beta), for some strange reason.

Mum's a bit upset about no lights this year but she always set up the main window as a doll shop, no religious stuff or Santa so she could leave it there long after Christmas.

thanks Mark - I figured that was going to be the problem. I'm in a group blog so I don't think we'll be beta-ing for a while. that would involve making decisions! ;-)
