Overcame substantial dithering and vacillating to front up to a Melbourne blogmeet on Friday night, and had a really good time. Dorian came too. It surprised some people to find out that's really his name and not a pseudonym I made up.
Present were Helen Balcony, Mark Lawrence, Boynton, Tony T., Gummo Trotsky, FX Holden, Barista, Mark Bahnisch and his old friend Rachel, Rex Ringschott, William Burroughs' Baboon, Nicholas Gruen, TimT, Nabakov, Silent Speaking, and a number of representatives of that increasingly endangered species, the uncommenting blogless. An embarrassment of riches really. FX Holden has already written the definitive account of the evening's events, with pictures and only slightly sanitized.
Do you think one day everyone might be able to get together all at the same time in the same place? Extremely unlikely isn't it. I don't know about you but I go along assuming as a matter of course that sooner or later I'll meet each of my blog friends in the real world. Friday was really good, and honestly a dozen people or thereabouts is pushing the upper limit of how many people you can get in a decent bit of chat with in one night, but at different moments I missed some people who weren't there.
We talked about you, though.
As a small token of appreciation for bloggy mates everywhere I have scanned the other inexplicable cover of The Warm Ones.
'Let's play a game involving balls and pockets.'
Proudly brought to you by Sills Bend, Google's #1 source for matching his n hers jumpers.

'We talked about you.'
Well, there were certainly a lot of people talking about Landeryou. I'm sure he'd be grateful of the attention ...
Wonderful to meet you, Laura, and I'm sorry I wasn't able to maintain more meaningful dialogue about matters Austenish. I would blame the alcohol, but it's more likely that I'm like that most of the time. Cheers!
Poo bum. Oh well, at least I've met your furniture and cat. That's a pretty good start.
What is this about getting Ratty?
Ratty was my secret friend when I was very young and had nobody else to play with.
Ratty lied, and now the kitten army is being trained up to punish him, since nobody else will.
Sadly I suspect I'm one of the absent bloggers who isn't alpha-B enough to be talked about.
Nonetheless I'm disappointed I missed it, especially as the elusive Ms Tartan and her Dorian, not to mention Rex and others I haven't yet met were there.
Damndit.

Me, too. Even when it seems most unlikely in a practical sense, alas.

In the country, they have lots of space AND lots of bars, maybe they could lend you some to get the computer going again?
Would you come across the pool table for one of these men?
(Were Dorian's parents Oscar Wilde fans? Did they hope he'd never get old?)
Would you come across the pool table for one of these men?
Only if they were bloggers.
At first I thought they were.
(I knew you had your camera on you, Laura.)
The guy on the right looks as if he might be associated with the purple blog, maybe just as a blogless commenter, waiting for a cue.
Was great to meet you and Dorian.
Dorian was named after an Australian composer, Dorian LeGallienne, whose music was heard by his father when brooding on name choices. (His mother had just rejected Aneuryn) The joke about Dorian Gray was first made by the midwife. I know.
Dorian's mum.
I hate to admit it but I am sure I had a jumper very similar to that purple one once.
That's nothing to be ashamed of as it's actually a really lovely jumper.
The hell was Dustin Hoffman doing on a knitting pattern?
I'm getting deja vu now.
PS - DORIAN'S MUM COMMENTED?!
*highly impressed*
Heck, I didn't even know it was happening. I think I'm a bit out of the loop.
Sulk.
But I'm glad you all had a lovely time. :D
I like the way these snug woolies go all the way down the torso, keeping one's kidneys nice and warm. *Sigh* So many of these newfangled ones seems to stop too far up, leaving an unsightly and chilly gap. Could you publish the pattern next?
Do you really want the patterns, Mikhela? I'll happily photocopy the whole booklet and mail it to you - my email is sillsbend(at)gmail(dot)com
oooh - then I could knit enough for everyone and people could wear them at grogmeets (have i got that right? grogmeets?). It'd be like a special, in-crowd thing. Or out-crowd probably.
But nah, I'll never knit again, now that I've found blogging to while away my idle hours.
