when will it be safe to come down?

Think I'll just stay up here & post cat pixs for a coupla months. Or at least until I've driven away any readers who've been led to believe that this blog is a place where polemics are fashioned. People, all I make is handbags.

I'm still pretty wrecked about what happened yesterday. I've done the necessary to get my blog delisted off the search engines. That way, anyone who comes here will more likely be looking for me, not for some random patsy to make a pointless point about. I can't do anything about Technorati, but you've just got to hope that anyone who knows what that is & how it works also has some sort of grip on the differences between um let's say "journalism" and "commentary" on the one hand and er "life writing" on the other.

Fingers are tightly crossed that I don't lose my job or something. Unless it comes to that, I won't mention this horror again.

Hang in there, Pats... x

Gosh, if it's the post I'm thinking about, what was so offensive? And I totally missed the snarkiness, but have a stack of unread papers, so may go for a hunt tonight. Bloody egos.

Anyway, hang in there. We always need more cat pictures. And statutary memes. And handbags. And PhD ramblings.

And I love Dorian's mashup. I'm a latecomer to the concept, but I'm catching up fast! He is clever.

man! this whole thing sucks pretty bad. MTA is so far off base she's in orbit. Like the original post really warranted any scathing commentary at all? So ridiculous.

Yours is really the only blog I'm still reading at the moment, and if Baz takes centre stage once more I won't complain. But I hope this doesn't actually cause you any problems with work (which it shouldn't) and keep you quiet on any old random thing which pops into your head (like the social behaviour of academics or whatever...)

Represent!

If it's the post that I'm thinking of, then cripes - everybody thinks these things, why not bloody well say them! It wasn't even snarky. I hope nothing else goes wrong :-/

Anyway, the more Baz pics the better!

thanks for this. I really appreciate it. Really. Really.

I read your original post about whatshisname and don't recall it being harsh; I thought the tone was more puzzlement about his attitudes to people than anything else. So yes, I think the other academic's piece misrepresents you (and if she’d read more than a coupla paragraphs she’d realise it’s not at all what your blog’s about, anyway). Why not put the "contentious" post back up to let people see for themselves? Easy for me to say anonymously, of course, but it's a free speech thing...

PS more Baz pics!

I don't get it. What was said? Where?

Don't worry, rh. I just misjudged and got caught out by a kind of stealth troll person with their own much bigger agenda. Hopefully it won't happen again. I took down the post because I feel ashamed and need to move on as quick as I can.

I certainly do take your point, Boris, and on reflection it would have been better not to bin the post but instead to edit it to better reflect what I intended to say. But you know when you just want to get rid of a soiled object? that's how I felt.

Okay, I've talked about this enough, the last thing I want to say is that I really am very, very sorry for any offence given to the person. I never meant to say anything critical.

Bugger them! Say what you like.

They can get fucked.

Oh! I just remembered the post, I think. That? Someone got all offended about that one? OMG!

I'm really sorry you're feeling so badly about this, and really really concerned that you could even think there'd be a chance there'd be real world work implications. What is the world come to? I'm sure I've said more contentious things on my blog over the last couple of years.

We all still love you. {{{{Laura}}}}}

Sorry, was I supposed to say {{{{Lucy}}}}? Or was that {{lylusn}}?

Some of us deadbeats have never read a thing about art, or even glanced at it. Your photos are beautiful. Your text is rivetting.
I've said that the Springthorpe posting is one of the best internet postings I've seen. But to tell the whole truth, it's one of the best I've seen anywhere: on a website, or in a book.

I don't have the slightest idea what's going on here (and you don't have to tell me), but can I just offer hugs and support and chocolate cake and all that? I'm so sorry. Have some cake.

You know, Baz is totally my favorite cat (besides my own).

[and I'm with phantom on the cake and support]

If it makes you feel any better, I used to laugh heartily at the academics in my (former) department who thought that an open-and-shutting-of-the-mouth with no sound was an acceptable greeting but only when they were caught in the lift with you. Elsewise they would put their heads down and scuttle off like beetles.

I'd play a game where I would smile cheerily and say hello with volume and see how long it would thake them to crack and use volume themselves. A few never did.

I didn't think that there was anything bad/derogatory about the post either. It made me chuckle.
