on hiatus

I'm putting this blog on hiatus for a few months - until I finish writing my dissertation. I need to conserve and focus precious writing energies on getting that project done. A couple of days ago, I just sat down and said "right I'm writing 1000 words today", and it happened. It felt good. I want to be able to do this every day. And increasingly, the blog is interfering with my concentration. I think it's related to the way blog conversations go in cycles, and happen in real time, and one that's finishing overlaps with others that are beginning. Unfortunately, finishing a long writing project is entirely incompatible, for me at least, with always rethinking and revising. You'll realise from this that leaving off writing here also necessitates leaving off reading your blogs. I'm sorry about that, I'm going to miss you, very much. But I think I'll only be away for three or four months - people have been in comas longer than that - and when I come back I'll be free! free as a bird!

See you then.

So when you come back, we can throw a party to celebrate that the dissertation is done?

I look forward to that.

Get to work! We'll be waiting for you ....

Born free, as free as the wind blows
As free as the grass grows
Born free to follow your heart

Live free and beauty surrounds you
The world still astounds you
Each time you look at a star

Stay free, where no walls divide you
You're free as the roaring tide
So there's no need to hide

Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
'cause you're born free

(Stay free, where no walls divide you)
You're free as the roaring tide
So there's no need to hide

Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
'cause you're born free

HAPPY WRITING

Good luck with your steely resolve! I have wet noodle resolve, so needless to say I am in awe. I don't remember how I wrote my own thesis, but it was only a pissy little Masters and in biochem to boot. Wrote itself, really.

(Not really.) (Unfortunately.)

Hope you will still be creating bags as a stress reliever!

Wow, you really do have steely reserve! I'll still be wishing you all kinds of positive, reinforcing, writing energy and waiting with baited breath for all the wonderful posts you'll be putting up once you come back.

Hooray for being free as a bird! I am looking forward to that party celebrating your diss's completion.

Oh bugger. Like Zoe said. It's a lazy Sunday morning, too bright for my eyes, I decide to come off hiatus and check your blog and you're on hiatus ... with good reason, too.

SO, write like a demon, soar like a jetplane and (oh, complete this awkward analogy yourself, Laura).

Best!

Thanks Laura for those statue posts, they were just so very good.
And I mean the text as well, the whole thing. First-rate.

Good luck and come back soon, as I'd only just discovered your writing, and I'd like to read more.

Hey, good luck and all that, but I'm REALL SAD you're going, especially as it's happening just as I drag myself back to the computer, finally!

I realise I have neglected to ever add you to my blogroll. Sorry! There was nothing in it but absentmindness and the fact that using bloglines has made me lazy. Now I'm thinking perhaps I will add you with some ceremony when you return. Good times!

I will miss your blog and also your comments, Laura. All the best for the thesis home straight.

Hi and goodbye Laura,
I've only very recently added you to my blog links after visiting Melbourne - loved your statue photos. Best wishes with the concentrated writing - I'll keep an eye out for you in several months,
Karen

Hello,
Nice blog i like it
Props from the movie sets can come from a variety of sources. Often, after a film's premiere, the studio will auction off many of the props and costumes used in the film for the purpose of charity.
