new job, first day

Today is the first day of my new job. This afternoon a Personnel Officer supplied me with an Orientation Information Session For New Staff. She gave me a Folder with 33 Brochures in it (different ones to the 17 they sent last week with the Offer of Employment), and told me the Secret Words to type into the Browser Address Bar if I want to see a Special Video of the Vice Chancellor.

Tomorrow I will be issued with a staff ID card, and SHUDDER SHUDDER SHUDDER that means I HAVE TO HAVE MY PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN.

Here's an encouraging thing the Personnel Officer said. As she was checking I'd ticked all the boxes she asked me if I'd been taken through this procedure before (I haven't.) "It's just that I see you've been working as a casual for quite a few years, and many people go from casual to short term contract back to casual again back to contract again, and so they go through Induction quite a few times." Something to look forward to!

I try very hard to look like a professor but it doesn't work.
Maybe I'm sitting at the wrong cafe tables.

Woo! Good luck. Wish you'd taught me! I might have failed less often!

Break a leg!

I hope you didn't have your hair in a funny new experimental style for the photo. Take it from someone with big regrets that her son asked her do have Princess Leia hair that day. ACT licences are only issued every five years... and I'll be keeping mine well hidden till next photo opportunity.

That reminds me of my first day here. I wonder what was on all those brochures.
