help...please?

I wonder if some nice kind person would take pity on me & tell me where I can find instructions on the web for how to:
1) change the template here so i can have some links down the side
2) add photos (I have a flickr and a photobucket account if either of those help)
3) Generally spiff-up this pathetically factory-issue item.
